DAW Compatibility and Support

Hey crew!

We’ve had a few people ask about Prism compatibility with various DAWs, and wanted to clarify a few things here.

While we’ve focused our testing (and template creation) on Ableton Live, Reaper, and Tracktion Waveform, Prism should be compatible with all DAWs that support the VST3 or AU plug-in standards.

We use Ableton Live most often internally, but the brainwave entrainment community has largely rallied around Reaper due to its permissive trial license and low purchase price (starting at $60). We’ve added Tracktion Waveform to the mix because it has a completely FREE version and is an extremely capable and interesting DAW.

We encourage the community to test Prism in any DAW that you’re comfortable with, and report back here on compatibility. That way we can grow list of verified DAWs together over time.

It’s worth noting that some DAWs (such as Reason and MuLab) only support the VST2 standard, which has been discontinued. No new plug-ins developed are legally allowed to use the VST2 standard (though previously developed plug-ins that already had signed license agreements have been grandfathered in). As VST3 has become the new standard though, more and more DAWs are adding compatibility…and it should only be a matter of time before they all support it.

Please let us know what you find as you work with Prism, and we’ll continue to expand the list below.

Enjoy, and we look forward to seeing what you create!
